Richard A. Hoffmeister MD

Mr. Hoffmeister earned his B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado in 1954, where he also participated in ROTC. He earned his Doctor of Medicine there in 1958. He completed his US Army internship and then Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Letterman Army Medical Center and Shriner's Hospital San Francisco. He was a US Army Consultant in Orthopaedics Europe from 1969 to 1772. At the direction of the Surgeon General, he established the Orthopaedic Residency Training Program at Madigan in 1973.

Mr. Hoffmesiter retired from the military in October 1977 after serving as Chief, Professional Services and Deputy Commander, Madigan. He had a private practice in Tacoma, Washington, for 20 years. He joined the Foundation around 1980 and was president for two years.
